Quran
Most non-Arabic-speaking Muslims feel the Arabic letters look unfamiliar and the words feel distant—and yet the heart pulls toward connection. Short Quran verses in Arabic are where that connection begins, one word at a time.
These fifteen short Quran verses in Arabic are among the most recited, most memorized, and most spiritually significant in the entire Quran. Each Quran verse carries complete meaning in just a few words — making them the ideal starting point for anyone building their relationship with the Book of Allah.
1. That Quran Verse That Contains Bismillah
Every Muslim recites this phrase dozens of times daily, yet many have never studied its Arabic structure carefully. The Bismillah is not technically a standalone verse in most Surahs, but it stands as Al-Naml 27:30 and opens 113 chapters of the Quran.
Innahu min sulaymana wainnahu bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi
“Indeed, it is from Solomon, and indeed, it reads: ‘In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,” (An-Naml 27:30)
From a Tajweed perspective, notice the Lam Shamsiyyah — the ل in al-rahmān assimilates completely into the ر. Many beginners miss this and pronounce both letters separately.
If you want to read this correctly from day one, our Quran Reading Classes for Beginners teach exactly these foundational distinctions.

2. The Declaration of Pure Monotheism in Surah Al-Ikhlas
Surah Al-Ikhlas is one of the most memorized short Quran verses in Arabic — and for excellent reason. The Prophet ﷺ said it equals one-third of the Quran in reward, as recorded in Sahih Bukhari 5013.
Qul huwa llāhu aḥad. Allāhu ṣ-ṣamad. Lam yalid wa lam yūlad. Wa lam yakun lahū kufuwan aḥad.
“Say, He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. Nor is there to Him any equivalent.” (Al-Ikhlas 112:1–4)
The Ghunnah on the noon in lam yakun is a Tajweed point students most commonly miss here.
At The Quran Reading Academy, our Certified Tutors spend dedicated time on these rules in the Noorani Qaida Course before students ever attempt full surah recitation.

3. Short Quran Verses in Arabic for The Protection from Evil
Surah Al-Falaq is one of the two protective surahs — Al-Mu’awwidhatayn — that the Prophet ﷺ recited for protection every morning and evening.
Qul a’ūdhu bi-rabbi l-falaq. Min sharri mā khalaq. Wa min sharri ghāsiqin idhā waqab. Wa min sharri n-naffāthāti fi l-‘uqad. Wa min sharri ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad.
“Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak — from the evil of that which He created, and from the evil of darkness when it settles, and from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.” (Al-Falaq 113:1–5)
4. Quran Verses in Arabic for The Refuge from Whispering Evil
Surah An-Nas completes the pair of protective surahs. Reciting both Al-Falaq and An-Nas together after every prayer is a well-established Sunnah.
Qul a’ūdhu bi-rabbi n-nās. Maliki n-nās. Ilāhi n-nās. Min sharri l-waswāsi l-khannās. Alladhī yuwaswisu fī ṣudūri n-nās. Mina l-jinnati wa n-nās.
“Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind — the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind — from the evil of the retreating whisperer, who whispers in the breasts of mankind — from among the jinn and mankind.” (An-Nas 114:1–6)

5. Ayat al-Kursi in Arabic
Ayat al-Kursi is the greatest verse in the Quran, as confirmed in Sahih Muslim 810. Its Arabic is rich in Tajweed application points, making it excellent for structured recitation practice.
Allāhu lā ilāha illā huw, al-ḥayyu l-qayyūm. Lā ta’khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm. Lahū mā fi s-samāwāti wa mā fi l-arḍ. Man dhā lladhī yashfa’u ‘indahū illā bi-idhnih. Wa lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shay’in min ‘ilmihī illā bi-mā shā’. Wasi’a kursiyyuhu s-samāwāti wa l-arḍ. Wa lā ya’ūduhū ḥifẓuhumā. Wa huwa l-‘aliyyu l-‘aẓīm.
“Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.” (Al-Baqarah 2:255)
6. The Verse of The Affirmation of Allah’s Sufficiency
This short but immensely powerful verse captures complete reliance on Allah. Students who learn to read Quran word by word often begin with verses like this one.
Ḥasbunā llāhu wa ni’ma l-wakīl
“Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.” (Al Imran 3:173)
7. Quran Verses of Patience and Divine Support
Among the most recited short Quran verses in Arabic for moments of difficulty, this verse appears twice consecutively in Surah Ash-Sharh — emphasizing that ease accompanies hardship.
Fa-inna ma’a l-‘usri yusrā. Inna ma’a l-‘usri yusrā.
“For indeed, with hardship will be ease. Indeed, with hardship will be ease.” (Ash-Sharh 94:5–6)

8. The Verse of Turning Back to Allah
Every Muslim knows this phrase instinctively. Reading it correctly in Arabic — with proper articulation of the Lam in lillāhi — requires deliberate practice.
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji’ūn
“Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” (Al-Baqarah 2:156)
9. The Supplication for Mercy and Guidance
This verse from Surah Al-Baqarah is recited universally in du’a and is among the short Quran verses in Arabic most requested by students at The Quran Reading Academy for early memorization.
Rabbanā ātinā fi d-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fi l-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ‘adhāba n-nār
“Our Lord, give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.” (Al-Baqarah 2:201)

10. The Verse of Divine Knowledge and Provision
Reliance on Allah and certainty in His provision are beautifully captured in this short verse from Surah At-Talaq.
Wa man yatawakkal ‘alā llāhi fa-huwa ḥasbuh. Inna llāha bālighu amrih.
“And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose.” (At-Talaq 65:3)
11. The Verse of Glorification and Praise
This phrase, while known primarily as a dhikr, appears as part of Quranic text in Surah Al-Isra and carries a complete Tajweed lesson in its brief construction.
Subḥāna rabbika rabbi l-‘izzati ‘ammā yaṣifūn
“Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.” (As-Saffat 37:180)
12. The Verse of Absolute Trust in Allah’s Plan
Few short Quran verses in Arabic are as reassuring in moments of anxiety as this one. Allah’s awareness of every state of every soul is the complete answer to worry.
Wa huwa ma’akum ayna mā kuntum
“And He is with you wherever you are.” (Al-Hadid 57:4)
In my experience teaching adult beginners through our Quran Reading Classes for Adults, this verse consistently produces the deepest emotional response — precisely because its Arabic is short enough to memorize in one session yet carries the weight of complete Divine companionship.

13. The Verse of Allah’s Nearness
The directness of Allah’s response to the one who calls is declared in this portion of a longer verse, yet it stands complete in meaning on its own.
Fa-innī qarīb. Ujību da’wata d-dā’i idhā da’ān.
“I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.” (Al-Baqarah 2:186)
14. The Verse of Allah’s Unique Existence
This is one of the most theologically precise short Quran verses in Arabic — and one of the most beautiful in sound.
Laysa kamithlihi shay’. Wa huwa s-samī’u l-baṣīr.
“There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” (Ash-Shura 42:11)

15. The Verse of The du’a of Prophet Yunus
This du’a of Prophet Yunus (AS) from within the darkness is perhaps the most powerful short verse any Muslim can carry. Its Arabic pronunciation — particularly the Hamzah in illa — requires careful attention.
Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu mina ẓ-ẓālimīn
“There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.” (Al-Anbiya 21:87)

Frequently Asked Questions About Short Quran Verses in Arabic
How Many Verses Are There in the Quran?
The Quran contains 6,236 verses across 114 Surahs, and hundreds of them are short enough for beginners to memorize within days. Surahs from Juz’ Amma — the 30th section — contain the highest concentration of short, accessible verses. These are universally the starting point in structured Quran reading programs for non-Arabic speakers.
Can a Complete Beginner Learn to Read Short Quran Verses in Arabic?
Yes — a complete beginner with no Arabic background can begin reading short Quran verses in Arabic within weeks of starting structured instruction. The key is learning the Arabic alphabet and vowel marks (Harakat) first through a foundational method like the Noorani Qaida or the Al-Menhaj Book, before attempting full verse recitation.
Do I Need to Learn Tajweed to Recite Short Quran Verses Correctly?
Tajweed is necessary for accurate recitation of any Quran verse in Arabic. Even short verses contain rules like Ghunnah, Madd, Qalqalah, and Idgham that affect pronunciation meaningfully. You can explore whether reading Quran without Tajweed is acceptable — but correct application, even at a basic level, is what the Quran itself commands in Surah Al-Muzzammil.
